About This River
The only major river of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the Karnaphuli was dammed at Kaptai in 1962 to create Bangladesh's largest artificial lake and its only hydroelectric power station. Downstream, it becomes the shipping channel for Chattogram, the country's principal seaport.
