The historic main course of the Brahmaputra before an 1897 earthquake shifted its flow west into the Jamuna.
Now a smaller regional river, the Old Brahmaputra once carried the full flow of the Brahmaputra through Mymensingh before the Great Assam Earthquake of 1897 pushed the main channel west to form the Jamuna. It remains an important waterway through the Mymensingh floodplain.
Riverside walks in Mymensingh town and small boat trips near Bhairab are the main local river activities.
Supports local fisheries and irrigation for Mymensingh's agricultural belt.
