History & Background

Teknaf sits at the southern tip of the Bangladesh mainland, separated from Myanmar by the narrow Naf River, and has historically been a trading and fishing outpost with a mixed Bengali and Rakhine population. The Marine Drive linking it to Cox's Bazar, built in stages and completed in the 2010s, runs roughly 80 km along the coastline past Himchari and Inani, and is considered one of the longest marine roads in the region, opening up beaches and hills that were once accessible only by boat or rough tracks.

Highlights

  • Scenic 80 km coastal Marine Drive
  • Naf River viewpoint toward Myanmar
  • Fishing boat harbor
  • Gateway to Saint Martin's Island ferries
