History & Background
The Padma Multipurpose Bridge was one of Bangladesh's most ambitious infrastructure projects. Main construction began in November 2014, the final span was installed in December 2020, and the bridge was inaugurated on 25 June 2022 before opening to traffic on 26 June 2022. It was designed as a two-level bridge carrying a four-lane highway on the upper deck and a railway line on the lower deck.
