History & Background
Built in 1905 by Shashikanta Acharya Chowdhury, a member of the influential Mymensingh zamindar family, Shashi Lodge served as a residence and reception hall for the family and their British colonial guests. Its design combines European neoclassical columns and balustrades with domed towers reminiscent of Mughal pavilions, reflecting the eclectic taste of wealthy Bengali landowning families in the early 20th century. Long used by government offices after 1947, the building has more recently drawn attention for restoration as a heritage site reflecting Mymensingh's zamindari-era architecture.
