Brahmanbaria

Brahmanbaria is an eastern district of Chattogram Division known for fertile plains, Titas gas, music and cultural heritage, and strong transport links. It covers 1,881.20 km² and had a population of 3,306,563 in the 2022 census. Brahmanbaria town is the district headquarters and a major urban center.

Formerly part of Cumilla, Brahmanbaria was established as a district on 15 February 1984. The district has long been known for religious scholarship, music, and trade along the Titas-Meghna plain. It is associated with notable cultural personalities and political activism.

Location: East-central Bangladesh near Tripura. The district is mostly fertile plainland with the Titas and Meghna river systems shaping settlement and agriculture.

Population (2022): 3,306,563. Literacy rate (7+) was 72.12%, population density 1,758 per km², and about 20.62% of residents lived in urban areas. Muslims are the majority with a significant Hindu minority.

Brahmanbaria is a district-level education center with strong colleges, madrasa traditions, and regional links to Cumilla and Chattogram universities. Its schools and colleges are central to eastern Bangladesh's education network.

Economy and culture: agriculture, gas-related industry, trade, transport, and music heritage shape the district. Titas Gas Field, traditional music lineages, and riverine markets are especially important.
