Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport

History & Background

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport grew from the Kurmitola airfield area and replaced Tejgaon Airport as Bangladesh's main international airport. Operations began around 1980, and the airport was later renamed from Zia International Airport to honor the Sufi saint Shah Jalal. It is the busiest airport in Bangladesh and the central hub for national and private airlines.
