History & Background
Rose Garden Palace, also known as Rose Garden or Rashid Manzil, is a historic mansion in Tikatuli, Old Dhaka. It was built by zamindar Hrishikesh Das in the late nineteenth to early twentieth century as an elegant garden-palace setting for social and cultural gatherings. The property later passed to Khan Bahadur Kazi Abdur Rashid, who renamed it Rashid Manzil. Rose Garden is especially remembered as the site where the Awami Muslim League, later the Bangladesh Awami League, was founded on 23 June 1949. The Government of Bangladesh later acquired the property with plans to preserve it as a museum and heritage site.
