Gopalganj

Gopalganj is a riverine district of Dhaka Division known for agriculture, political history, and strong cultural identity in south-central Bangladesh. It covers 1,468.74 km² and had a population of 1,295,057 in the 2022 census. Gopalganj town is the district headquarters and sits on the Madhumati river system.

Gopalganj has long been shaped by river settlement, agrarian life, and the historical currents of old Faridpur. It later became nationally important through its association with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the political history of independent Bangladesh.
