Dhanmondi Shahi Eidgah

History & Background

Dhanmondi Shahi Eidgah, also called Mughal Eidgah, was built in 1640 during the Mughal period. It is traditionally attributed to Mir Abul Qasim, a Diwan of Shah Shuja and builder of Boro Katra. The Eidgah has been used for Eid congregations for centuries and is regarded as one of the oldest surviving Mughal monuments in Dhaka. Its raised platform and surviving western wall with mihrab preserve an important example of Mughal religious architecture in the city.
