History & Background
Locally known as "Alutila Rohosshопur Gufa" (Mysterious Cave of Alutila), the roughly 200-meter natural tunnel was long known to local Tripura and Chakma communities before becoming a tourist attraction as Khagrachari's hill tracts opened to wider domestic travel after the 1997 Chittagong Hill Tracts Peace Accord. Visitors traditionally carry bamboo torches (now often supplemented by flashlights) to wade through the dark, twisting passage, which was formed naturally within the hill and remains cool and damp year-round.
