History & Background

Natore historically followed the broader history of Rajshahi and the ancient Pundravardhana region. It was shaped by Pala, Sena, Sultanate, and Mughal-era political changes, but its most lasting public identity came through the Natore Raj family and the large zamindari estates that expanded in the 18th century. Natore became a subdivision in the colonial era and was established as a district in 1984. Its historical legacy remains visible in palace architecture, landed estates, and the memory of figures such as Rani Bhabani.
