Carew & Co. in Darshana is tied to a long industrial lineage that reaches back to the colonial era and was nationalized in Bangladesh after independence. The Darshana site is widely noted for being inside the sugar-mill compound and for using sugar molasses in distillery operations. Unlike many state sugar units, Carew is often cited as one of the few profitable government-linked enterprises in this sector.
